The Short Answer
For every service in Timing you choose a "Pricing type": "Fixed", "Range" or "Hidden". With a range the client sees a range or "from", and with a hidden price they see no price at all, and never "free". You set the final price on the appointment itself: when you approve a booking request, or at any time from the appointment in the calendar. All three pricing types are on every plan.
Three Pricing Types
| Type | What the client sees | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed | One price | A men's haircut, a private lesson, a consulting session of fixed length |
| Range | A range, or "from" when there is no maximum | Hair colour, hair removal by area, a repair that depends on the size of the job |
| Hidden | No price | A service priced after an assessment, a personal quote |
You set it in the service editor: in the menu, in the "Business page" group, choose "Services", open a service and choose under "Pricing type". How to add a service.
A Price Range
- Fill in "Minimum price", and a maximum if you want one. The maximum is optional.
- With a maximum the client sees a range, for example ₪150 to ₪250. Without one they see "from ₪150".
- The appointment is booked at the minimum, and you update the real price on the appointment.
A range is a good middle ground when you want the client to know roughly what it will cost, without committing to a price that does not fit every head of hair or every job.
A Hidden Price
With a hidden price the client sees no price on the booking page. You can fill in an "Internal price", and it keeps showing to you on appointments and in reports. A service you have not priced yet is also shown to clients with no price, never as a free service.
Want to hide the length too? The service editor has "Hide duration from customers". The available times do not change, and you still see the length on appointments.
The Final Price on the Appointment
When you approve a booking request
With automatic approval off, every booking waits for you. Tapping the price on the request card opens "Confirm appointment details", where it says what the client saw, for example the service's range, and update the "Price" before approving. For a hidden-price service that has no price yet, you can enter it now, or approve and set it later. How to approve booking requests.
From the appointment in the calendar
On any appointment, including one already approved, you can open it and change the price. That way the price in your reports is what you really agreed with the client.
How It Shows in Your Figures
On the Home screen, "Expected revenue" is worked out from the prices on the appointments. An appointment without a price is not counted, and under the figure it says how many such appointments there are. It is a good reminder to go over them and fill in prices.
So, Show Prices or Not?
- Show a fixed price when the service really is fixed. A client who sees a price does not need to ask before booking.
- Show a range when the price varies but you know its limits.
- Hide it only when it cannot be known ahead, and say in the service description how the price is set.
Either way, let the client book on their own. Why that matters is explained in the guide to online booking, and more on the booking page is on the online booking page.
